BԪ’s Global Honors Program Makes its Mark at National Collegiate Honors Council Annual Conference
BԪ's Global Honors Program (GHP) represented the College at a national level when members of the faculty and student body attended the 56th Annual Conference of the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC). The NCHC is a professional association that provides resources and support for the nation’s collegiate honors programs. As a conference participant, Mercy’s GHP showcased faculty and student projects, built key relationships with peer institutions and shared best practices for advancing honors education.
The BԪ GHP provides academic and civic opportunities for highly motivated students to enhance their college experience through collaborative, experiential and self-directed learning. Attending the Orlando, Florida, conference were Mercy faculty members and GHP co-directors, Dr. Irina Ellison and Dr. K. Patrick Fazioli. Ellison gave two presentations to conference attendees: a progress report on the region’s diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, and a case study describing collaborative efforts among regions. Fazioli is part of NCHC’s Publications Board, which plays a crucial role in determining actions that affect honors education.
Also in attendance at the conference was Mercy honors student Charlee Henley ’22, one of three student representatives from the region elected to serve on the Executive Board of the Northeast Regional Honors Council (NRHC). Henley presented a report on the activities of that body to an audience of education professionals.
“It was a great experience and a wonderful opportunity to build confidence and practice my public speaking skills,” Henley said, adding that she looks forward to attending the next regional conference in April, where she will continue to expand her network and develop her skillset while supporting collegiate honors programs.
“Participating in the NCHC conference demonstrates the Global Honors Program’s commitment to providing the best honors experience for our students,” said Ellison. “We’re proud to have a current student represent BԪ on a national scale at a prestigious gathering of professionals in honors education. It’s a testament to the strength of our program, and the talent of our students.”
