Kari Ann Brown ’19 had recently graduated from the University of Toronto and was looking to maximize her business experience with a Master’s of Business Administration when she found BԪ.
“The one-year program was what was initially appealing to me, but after going to an open house and being welcomed with open arms, I fell in love with the family atmosphere. As an international student, feeling so at home and welcomed was really important to me,” said Brown.
That welcoming atmosphere carried over into Brown’s experiences applying to the MBA and completing the necessary paperwork as an international student.
“I always had advisers with me, it was extremely easy to get the forms I needed and complete all the steps in the correct order. Everyone was very flexible and always had time for me,” said Brown.
Once at Mercy, Brown quickly jumped into her studies in the MBA program and chose managerial analytics as her concentration.
“Managerial analytics is crucial because society is so data-driven. Everything is tracked and there’s so much data available, but you have to be able to harvest that info and leverage it,” said Brown.
Outside of the classroom, Brown works as a graduate assistant and volunteers with the Strategic Consulting Institute.
“We recently had the Westchester County government as a client and we helped them to maximize opportunities and analyze the best way for them to pursue future business goals. There were four different groups, mine focused on creating more opportunities for small business and small business owners within the county,” said Brown.
Brown also was invited to participate in the College’s School of Business Dean search committee.
“For the first time two students were included on the search committee,” said Brown. “There was an undergraduate student and I was the graduate representative. Expressing what students want and need in a new Dean was very important, and I was so grateful for the opportunity to ask the candidates questions and be an active part of the interview process,” said Brown.
Brown studied business before, but said being at BԪ was special.
“Mercy is unique to any other college I’ve been to—I couldn’t go to another school and get this experience. I’ve been able to do so many different hands-on activities and better my skills. I haven’t even graduated yet and I’ve achieved so many goals and furthered my potential,” said Brown.
