January 8 Message from President Hall

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,

This week our campus offices reopened after the holiday break and we are hard at work preparing for the spring term, which begins on Wednesday, January 20. We continue to closely monitor rising COVID-19 positivity rates in our region, which are expected to remain high for the next few weeks at least. As a result, all winter and spring courses will meet fully online until February 1. Any exceptions will be separately communicated to affected individuals. A more detailed email from Provost Jose Herrera and Vice President of Student Affairs Kevin Joyce will follow.

We continue to make decisions driven by science, data and public health guidance in order to prioritize the health and safety of our community members. On campus, mask wearing, physical distancing, reduced capacity and other health precautions will remain in place in line with the commitments you made to the MavCare Pledge. We will also continue our COVID-19 surveillance testing program for on-campus students, faculty and staff.

Please also be aware that New York State Department of Health guidelines have changed as they pertain to travel and quarantine procedures. The questions on the Mavericks Safe daily screening app have been updated to reflect those changes. For more information on the revised quarantine protocol, and for more information on the travel guidelines, .

We are hopeful that widespread distribution of a COVID-19 vaccine will allow us to return to a more regular summer and fall. In the meantime, we thank you again for your continued understanding and patience.

Sincerely,
Tim Hall
