Victoria N煤帽ez, Ph.D., is a New York-born scholar of U.S. Latinx studies, bilingual education, and English as a new language instruction at B次元. Her interdisciplinary research addresses second language writing, teacher preparation for multilingual education, access in higher education, and the foundations of multilingual/multicultural education.

Dr. N煤帽ez has presented in state-wide and national meetings, addressing Latinx community literacy practices in TESOL education, folklore, and incorporating parent and community cultural funds of knowledge in K-12 schools. Dr. N煤帽ez鈥檚 scholarship draws inspiration from her background as a scholar, a parent of an emergent bilingual child, and a parent activist. She builds bridges between the University and the community through her diversity and equity volunteer work on the Tarrytown Public Schools Diversity and Equity Team, and a B次元 representative on the Rivertown Parent Education Steering Committee.

Further, her research interests include global discussions of multilingualism and bilingual education. To that end, she is publishing a chapter in a forthcoming volume, Critical Understandings of Latinx and Global Education (Dec., 2021, Brill). She edited a volume of The Global Education Review on New Perspectives on Bilingualism, Biliteracy and Biculturalism in a Globalized World in 2015.

Her most recent publication, 鈥淩emembering Pura Belpre鈥檚 Early Career: Interracial Cooperation and Puerto Rican Settlement During the Harlem Renaissance,鈥 continues her interdisciplinary research on the history of U.S. Latinx communities. She collaborates in an ongoing fashion with the Centro de Estudios Puertorrique帽os of the City University of New York as it continues to develop bilingual resources that present Puerto Rican folklore and other history to students of all ages.

She is a founding faculty member of a new (2020) 5 year Master's Degree Program for Spanish majors at B次元 that will lead to a M.S. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.
