Born in Shanghai, Dr. Wang was extremely fortunate to receive an excellent American higher education made possible by a full scholarship. As a first-generation college graduate and immigrant, he realizes how important a role professors play in changing students’ lives. He has held his firm belief that education can raise up motivated students regardless of their socioeconomic status. 

Dr. Wang is very proud to be a student-centric professor who motivates students to perform at their highest levels. He has many students who have worked very hard and performed well. A leading example is Facebook’s Co-Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg - Mark took one programming class while being a 9th grader at a local high school. 

Dr. Wang has published over 20 peer reviewed journal and conference papers. He has led numerous NSF STEM and Microsoft grants totaling more than one million dollars to assist academically motivated yet economically disadvantaged students. He served on the Content Advisory Committee for the New York State Teacher Certification, as well as on the Computer Science Review Committee for the joint ACM and IEEE. From 2012 to 2015, He served as the Associate Dean of the School of Liberal Arts, a member of the college-wide strategic planning committee, and Co-Chair of the school’s academic program assessment team. Currently, Dr. Wang is chairing Mercy’s STEM Advisory Board and the Dept of Math and Computer Sciences, serving on the College Board’s National Advisory Board for AP Computer Science (A), and is a member of the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) Academic Alliance.
